11:11 Phenomenon

“We work with being, but non-being is what we use.” –Tao Te Ching #11

As we approach 11/11, I want to mention the phenomenon surrounding those numbers. About two years ago I noticed that for some reason I always checked the time when it was exactly 11:11. When I mentioned it to my husband, he said the same thing had been happening to him. Soon after it escalated to include 1:11, 3:11, 9:11; nearly every time we looked at a clock, it was 11 minutes after the hour. Since we are both aware of numerological and other types of synchronicities, we knew it had some significance but couldn’t quite place it. Since then we’ve been hearing the same thing all over the place from all kinds of people.

Those who are into numerology and the symbols used in various secret societies probably already know about the strange reoccurrence of the number 11 in the events on September 11, 2001. You can find more about this online, here is one example.

Similar coincidences are found for the numbers 11.11. The WWI armistice was signed at 11:11 AM on 11/11/18. World War II ended on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. The Berlin Wall fell on 11/11/89. Supposedly the Mayan calendar end year 2012 is timed at 11:11 Universal time; the U.S. Navy lists the 2012 solstice for 12/21/12 at 11:11 Universal time. Yasser Arafat died on 11/11/04. JFK was assassinated on 11/22. Wikipedia lists the events, births, deaths, holidays and observances on this day. Interesting to note that 1.11111111 squared = 1.2345678987654321 and 111111111 x 111111111 = 12345678987654321, like a count-up and count-down, or pyramid. I discuss the number 11 in my book Surfing the Tao, which was published before I started noticing the 11:11 phenomenon on clocks, because in my spirit I sensed it was important to have at least some awareness of how others think of and use numbers.

Note that the twin pillars are significant Masonic symbols. They are found in our dollar sign, along with an encircling serpent. According to their legends, sacred knowledge was inscribed upon two pillars called Boaz and Joachim, which were then lost in a great flood. Pythagoras and Hermes Trismegestus supposedly found them later and passed this wisdom on to others. Also it should be noted that the numbers 11, 22 and 33 are considered “master numbers” to occultists. Aleister Crowley revered the number 11 and considered it to be an object of magic, believing it was more powerful than the number 13, which to those ‘in the know’ is just a red herring in terms of power numbers.

The number 11 means different things to different people. It’s considered a ‘bad’ or ‘unlucky’ number to the Hebrews; for them ‘11’ stands for transgression of the law, rebellion, sin, war, sorcery and martyrdom. To others it represents the ‘Old World Order’ (thus the destruction of the twin towers to usher in the New World Order, so they say). According to numerologists, ‘11’ can mean anything from intuition, honesty, spirituality, light, gentleness, and insight to justice, karmic burden and growth in consciousness. Some say it stands for destruction, the battle between good and evil, or the birth of something new.

The 11:11 phenomenon can be found everywhere now – online there are many websites, forums, discussions, blogs and articles about it. There’s even a 4 minute video called “11:11 Wake Up” on Google. Renowned psychic Uri Geller noticed 11:11 too; he believes it is a “pre-encoded trigger placed into our cellular memory banks prior to our descent into matter which, when activated, signifies that our time of completion is near.” He says 11:11 is our wake-up call, and when it happens to reflect for a moment, look larger, ask for help or simply listen for a revelation. Geller asserts that 11.11 is “the bridge to our vitality and oneness. It is our pathway into the positive unknown and beyond.”

Solara says people notice these numbers more during times of “accelerated personal change”, as “a reminder of your true purpose here on Earth”; she also describes an 11:11 Doorway or Gateway, like a crack between two worlds linking two different spheres of energy. She says when you see them, know you are on the right track. 1111spiritguardians.com says the 11:11 reoccurrence is the work of “fun-loving Spirit Guardians, or Angels” to get our attention. Crystalinks says 11:11 can be seen as a key to unlock the subconscious mind, to remind us that we are spirits having a physical experience, rather than the other way around. Graham Tucker also wrote about 11:11, noting some crop circles with this design. Many more links to 11:11 synchronicities can be found here. I also found it interesting to look up 11:11 (Chapter 11, etc.) in different books of the Bible and other spiritual sources.

For me, numbers resonate in different ways, and in the grand scheme of the multi-dimensional universe we live in, I know enough to pay attention to them. 11:11 has happened to me so many times now I just laugh, and think of it as God winking at me. They are like messages from the Universe, little synchronicities and signs that at the very least, confirm for me that there is a much bigger, much more elaborate plan in the works than my puny mind can comprehend. What does it mean that so many people are experiencing the 11:11 phenomenon, I can’t be 100% sure; simply that those of us who do sit up and pay attention is what I believe is important at this point. “Wake up”, as the video warns. Perhaps it’s just another guidepost on our journey towards Surfing the Tao.

I also have noticed the number 11 popping out at me from time to time, and it certainly does prompt an instinctual reaction, to think of God, or wonder about my place in the universe….

Great post A.V.! I remember Robert Anton Wilson talking alot about the synchronicity of the number 23 in his Cosmic Trigger books… yet 11 seems to represent a possible mirror?

Maybe 11.11 will indeed be our ‘wake-up’ call? – i’ll set my alarm clock…

PS. Glad to see you’re back and well after the Hawaian tremors 🙂

  3. Nothingman Says:

I was born on 11 may, so when people ask me which date I am born on, i show them two middle fingers, makes 11, so they remember 🙂

Thank you for this post 🙂 A lot of years before I was open to all the “woo-woo” stuff 😉 I noticed the number 11, I just decided one day that it was “my number.” I remember saying to myself that it was the perfect number, balanced, and that it represented the perfect couple, two equal partners, separate and yet one.

Years later, I started noticing the 11:11 on the clock…and then many more years later, and after potent metaphysical experiences in 1998, I discovered my life path number (per my birthday) was number 11 🙂 Actually, in adding the birthday two different ways, I get 20/2 and 11/2…but I feel that all of those numbers are significant to my life path. I recently posted on my blog an NDE experience, a bulletin I came upon at myspace a few days ago. It blew me away, a joy to read. I so resonated with it. My myspace friend had posted it at 11:33, I reposted it on myspace (I think it was the next day) at 11:11. Please read it, I think you’d enjoy it 🙂

    Peace,
    Dove

Hi Angela, I’m happy to find your articles on the net. I’ve been experiencing these frequent appearences of 1111(and many other things) in my life since 1981, that’s what I recall, all my addresses were 1111 and hte first one I noticed was in New York and many other things related to that, it would be too long to write them down here…to make it short I’ve bought an apartment which was to be built, the construction company gave us a hard time, it took them 11 years to finish after a lot of fight and guess what was the number of the building: 1111. Well, in July 2007 and went to London, I mean I was pushed to London and Stonehenge wouldn’t come out of my mind so I found a trip that allowed people to spend some time inside the circle(which is hard nowadays), I went with my nephew (who is a very special person and his wife) I ended up staying in the circle by myself for some time sitting in the middle of it and walking around, it was Friday July 13th . I think it has a lot to do with 1111 check the picture of stonehenge, why I was pushed to that place…those questions puzzle me .Hope to talk to you some day.

What does it mean…think about asking the same question about life. What does it all mean. We don’t know, we might not ever know, would that matter in this life? I don’t know. I think that seeing 11:11 is some sort of trans-conciouness pinholes that manifest themselves in the form of 1’s. Think about what you are looking at right now on the computer, broken down all you see is 1010101000110101010101010. Light or no light, presents or no presents. I have a theory that seeing those 1’s is to say that this is something, this universe, our existance and everything is something, it’s not hollow and random in the sence of nothingness. There can only be one infinity and an infinite one, we are all connected. It’s something that I cannot define in my mind but I can feel it pulsing through my body and soul in some indefinable evanescent language.

On November 2nd, I took my son, a wise young person, to see Ravi Shankar perform in SF. A event we’d looked forward to for months. We googled the address and I didn’t, at the time think anything about the fact that it was 1111 California street. Later that month went to separate performance, googling the address for directions, and it too was 1111 OFarrel. I though, hmm, what an interesting coincidence. When speaking to a close friend for our evening check in, he asked, “What is it?” I looked and then I said, “How weird, it’s 11:11 p.m.” and then let him know that 1111 number kept coming up this month. So, googled the “significance of the number 1111” and started reading about what it could mean and others who have been noting related occurances. Started thinking about how 11 has always been a number that I’d choose for various functions, that years ago I found that in numerology I am a master 11, I am born in the 11th month, my mother born in 11th month, as was my father, one sister, and my daughter, and so forth. The messages about change, making one our dual way of existing, portals to other realities, all reconcile with my former understanding…so, this is another very interesting message to have drop in my lap. Not yet sure what I think of it, but it’s got my attention. Lorraine

I am so fasinated with the idea of the great big Apocalypse which supposedly is going to happen on 12/21/12 at 11:11 p.m. Universal Time

I am so fasinated with the idea of the great big Apocalypse which supposedly is going to happen on 12/21/12 at 11:11 p.m. Universal Time. I, in turn, also think it is so confusing to think that I thought the world was never going to end. But ,boy, I must be wrong. This Apocalypse thing is also very frighting. I hate to think I won’t even graduate. But all is well, since I have the Lord in my heart and I know he will take care of us all.

  16. Debra G. Says:

I’ve been seeing 111 and 11:11 for 30 years now. In my teens, I previously dabbled in the occult: astrology and numerology. It was shortly after becoming a born-again Christian in 1978 that the 111 sightings started happening to me. (My Social Security Number is 1111. It was applied for in 1975, three years before becoming a Christian, so this is evidence that 1111 was in my life long before I realized it). In 1978, my mind was opened to a higher plane of spiritual reality when I got saved (born-again). About six months later, I started to pick up 111 vibes alongside the reality of God. I’ve never felt that 111 was of God though, because it was competing with His Spirit for my attention. I remember thinking that it was an angel but not an angel from God. The feelings that I’d experience when seeing 111 were eerie, frightening, and confusing. Getting saved made Satan very angry and his angels (demons) were trying to lure me back into the occult via 111. Another synchronic coincidence is that for over 20 years I also hear words spoken at the exact same moment as I’m reading them in a book, newspaper, billboard, etc.. “Take heed how you hear” is a Bible verse that comes to mind regarding that.
The Bible is loaded with numbers and their significance. There is even a book of the Bible called NUMBERS. For some reason God stresses the number 666 as a reference to the anti-Christ and “his number”. We are in the age when his evil presence comes onto the world-wide stage. Perhaps 111 and 1111 have to do with the SPIRIT of this evil person (a deceiving spirit that is very prevalent in the world today and will become even more so). People who see 111 and 1111 are being awakened to the spirit realm or drawn to it more closely. If it has led you to search for answers, may I suggest reading the Holy Bible (KJV). John 1:1 is a good place to start. Another quest could be to search all the 11 verses, especially Revelation 11:11 and Hebrews 11:1. The ancient writings of scripture go back 5,000 years! The New Testament is just over 2,000, but all of it is relevant today. And 2,000 years ago, Jesus warned of 666, and now we’re seeing it!
I have no other answers for this phenomenon except the Word of God which says in Matthew regarding strange sites and wonders, “When all these things begin to come to pass, LOOK UP!” and that WE are personally responsible, each and every one of us, to God. Do not take my word for anything nor another’s word. You must search out the Truth so that you will know beyond a shadow of a doubt what is true because you experience it firsthand. There are sites that say that the 111 is a “wake up call” from pre-incarnated implanted DNA awakening within our spirit, or that we are being contacted by “Light Workers,” or that we ARE the “Light Workers”! I don’t believe any of it. I don’t believe it simply because it contradicts the Bible. The Bible is my standard of truth.
I also started seeing 222, 333, 444, 555, 999, 888, 777, in that order in 1978. The number 666 NEVER, EVER tried to get my attention! Conspicuous by its absence? I wonder.
